| Page Ahead Children's Literacy Program is currently seeking full-time VISTA members to work in our downtown Seattle and Spokane offices. Both offices are looking to hire a Family Involvement VISTA and a Community Partnerships VISTA. Started in 1990, Page Ahead is a non-profit whose mission is to provide new books and reading activities to at-risk children and their families. The primary duties of the Community Partnerships VISTA are: engage and maintain relationships with community partners; encourage book drives and volunteering at reading events; and coordinate fundraising events. Experience with fundraising or event planning is helpful, but your energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to service are more important! The primary duties of the Family Involvement VISTA are: facilitate family literacy workshops to assist parents in promoting literacy at home; collect family involvement information and best practices to enhance website; coordinate community events to promote reading; manage volunteers who perform story time read alouds in classrooms. Experience working in education with children or parents is helpful, but your energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to service are more important! Both VISTA positions are paid AmeriCorps volunteer opportunities. As an AmeriCorps volunteer, you will receive a modest living stipend, education award of $4,725, health coverage, and training. Some AmeriCorps volunteers also qualify for student loan forbearance and childcare assistance. Positions open until July 31, 2007.
